BATESVILLE, Miss. - In a back and forth game,
South Panola (Batesville, Miss.)'s offense came through to hand the the Tigers a 35-33 win.
After taking the lead on a touchdown pass by
Rip Kirk to
C.J. Leland in the second quarter, the Tigers led 28-21 at the half.
South Panola saw its 7-point halftime lead fall to one entering the fourth.
SP led by as many as 21 points before the Chargers cut into the final margin.
The Batesville school's most effective player was
Darrell Henderson. The sophomore ran for two touchdowns. He has now scored eight touchdowns on the season.
Shea Chism played well for Southaven. He threw four touchdowns.
SHS came in giving up 17.1 points per game this season. The Chargers struggled against the Tigers' offense, which entered the game scoring 20.8 points per game.
Last season's game between the teams resulted in a 44-21 win for South Panola.
The defeat comes as a step back for Southaven, which notched a 28-22 victory over Grenada in its previous outing. The loss snapped Southaven's 3-game winning streak.
South Panola (7-2) goes up against Grenada in a 6A Region 1 game matchup next week, while Southaven (6-3) locks horns with DeSoto Central also in a 6A Region 1 game.
