Hunter is 1-9 against Cyprus since April of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Wolverines will host the Pirates at 3:30 p.m. Hunter is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.6 runs per game this season.
While Hunter's win against San Juan wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Wolverines had just enough and edged out the Broncos 6-4. The Wolverines haven't had any issues with the Broncos recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Meanwhile, Cyprus got themselves on the board against Granger on Monday, but Granger never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 16-0 margin over the Lancers. The game marked the Pirates' most dominant win of the season.
Harlem Hinojos Dominguez looked comfortable as she tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Cyprus got a massive performance out of Abagail Hurtado, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Hurtado is on a roll when it comes to home runs, as she's now launched at least one in each of the last seven games she's played. Another player making a difference was Sydney Julio, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.
Cyprus always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .636. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Cyprus' victory bumped their record up to 9-11. As for Hunter, their win bumped their record up to 14-9.
Hunter's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's contest. The Wolverines have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Cyprus, though, as they've been averaging only 1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Hunter continue to outrun the ball?
Everything went Hunter's way against Cyprus in their previous meeting back in March, as Hunter made off with a 25-9 victory. Will the Wolverines repeat their success, or do the Pirates have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
