Basketball Recap: East Marion Takes a Loss

If East Marion was feeling good fresh off their 58-33 takedown of Lumberton last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The East Marion Eagles fell just short of the Enterprise Yellowjackets by a score of 54-52 on Friday. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 60-56 on January 7th.

When it comes to explaining why East Marion lost, don't look at Brian Foxworth. Despite the final result, he went 10 for 20 on his way to 29 points and seven boards. Those 29 points gave Foxworth a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Caden Mingo, who went 5 of 11 en route to 15 points.

Even though they lost, East Marion smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 2 offensive rebounds per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 10.8.

East Marion's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 7-9. As for Enterprise, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 15-9.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. East Marion will challenge Salem at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. East Marion is facing Salem at the right time seeing as Salem is stuck on a 17-game losing streak. Enterprise has already played their next contest (against Resurrection Catholic), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
