The Bainbridge Bearcats pushed their score all the way to 56 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell to Cairo 61-56. Bainbridge was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Cairo apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.
Bainbridge lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Aj Grant, who scored 17 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Cam Sanders was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Cairo had a senior duo take command as Keshen Spence scored 28 points and Amari Powell scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. Powell continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jykortnee Brown, who scored six points along with nine rebounds.
This is the second loss in a row for Bainbridge and nudges their season record down to 10-8. As for Cairo, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-8 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bainbridge will stay at home for another game and welcome Thomas County Central at 7:30 p.m. on January 23rd. Thomas County Central will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Georgia Rankings (they are ranked 287th, while Bainbridge is ranked 140th). Cairo won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Spencer at 4:30 p.m. on January 20th. One thing working in Spencer's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season.
