The Lovington Wildcats lost to the Portales Rams back in February of 2023, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Friday. Lovington walked away with a 63-53 victory over Portales. The win made it back-to-back wins for Lovington.
Lovington got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Demarcus Thompson jr out in front who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Thompson jr has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Kayle Covington, who scored 19 points along with six rebounds.
Lovington's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-9. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.5 points per game. As for Portales, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 14-9.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lovington will take on Artesia at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Artesia knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matches -- so hopefully Lovington likes a good challenge. As for Portales, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Goddard at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Portales is facing Goddard at the right time seeing as Goddard is stuck on a six-game losing streak.
