Basketball Recap: Jacksboro Falls Despite Big Games from Hayden Walker and Brailyn Tullous

Jacksboro managed to keep up with Vernon until halftime on Tuesday, but things quickly went downhill from there. The Jacksboro Tigers came up short against the Vernon Lions, falling 65-44. The Tigers haven't had much luck with the Lions recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.

Brailyn Tullous and Hayden Walker certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Tullous went 9 of 18 en route to 24 points in addition to six rebounds and five steals, while Walker dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten boards. What's more, Walker also racked up three blocks, the most she's had since back in December of 2024.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Vernon to victory, but perhaps none more so than Key'Maria Mcbride, who posted 21 points along with six boards and three steals. Mcbride has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last ten times she's played. Mijah Johnson was another key player, dropping a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds.

Jacksboro's loss dropped their record down to 15-10. As for Vernon, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 18-7 record this season.

A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Jacksboro Tigers duke it out with the Henrietta Bearcats at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Vernon, they will face off against City View at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a four-game winning streak alive.
