Diboll is 9-1 against Hemphill since January of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Diboll Lumberjacks will look to defend their home court against the Hemphill Hornets at 8:00 p.m. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.
Diboll fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against Huntington on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 60-56 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Red Devils. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Diboll's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Malachai Mitchell, who scored 12 points along with six steals, and Latavian Forney who scored 14 points along with four steals. Mitchell is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed three or more in the last seven games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jadarian Kennerew, who scored eight points along with 11 rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, Hemphill was just a bucket shy of victory on Tuesday and fell 52-51 to Central Heights. Hemphill has not had much luck with Central Heights recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Diboll's defeat dropped their record down to 11-11. As for Hemphill, they now have a losing record at 11-12.
Diboll barely slipped by Hemphill in their previous meeting back in January, winning 64-63. Will Diboll repeat their success, or does Hemphill have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
