Alice is 1-9 against Calallen since March of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Coyotes will take on the Wildcats at 7:00 p.m.
On Tuesday, Alice didn't have quite enough to beat Ray and fell 4-3. The Coyotes have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Alice got a good showing from Nick Lopez, who tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits.
At the plate, Alice saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Landon Guerra, who scored a run while going 1-for-1.
Meanwhile, Calallen put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They were the clear victors by a 15-0 margin over Robstown. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 games by six runs or more this season.
Drayton Mitchell made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit over 4.1 innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in February.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Wyatt Duke, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and one triple. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. Chase Lynch was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 4-for-4.
Calallen was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .655. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .308 or higher in 13 consecutive matches.
Calallen's victory was their 29th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 22-0. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Alice, their loss dropped their record down to 10-12-1.
Alice came out on top in a nail-biter against Calallen in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, sneaking past 1-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Coyotes since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
