Sterling has gone 8-1 against Alleman recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Golden Warriors will face off against the Pioneers at 4:30 p.m. Sterling is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
Sterling took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. Everything went their way against Galesburg as they made off with a 13-3 victory. The result was nothing new for the Golden Warriors, who have now won four matchups by eight runs or more so far this season.
Lily Martinez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing six innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. Martinez was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. That stolen base was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Kaity Taylor and Mya Lira did most of the damage at the plate: Taylor scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-3, while Lira scored two runs while going 4-for-4. Those two stolen bases gave Taylor a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lily Cantu, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
Sterling kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in six consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Alleman narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Quincy 5-4.
Like Sterling, Alleman also got a great game from a two-way player: Sydnee Ganahl. She tossed seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. Ganahl was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one RBI.
In other batting news, Alysa Brinkman was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.
Sterling is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for Alleman, their record now sits at 5-10.
Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Sterling hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .331. However, it's not like Alleman struggles in that department as they've averaged .354. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Sterling's way against Alleman in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as Sterling made off with a 10-0 win. Do the Golden Warriors have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Pioneers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
