Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Brookside, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They won by a set and slipped past Black River 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Cardinals have posted against the Pirates since September 21, 2021.
Brookside took Black River into a fifth set where they got it done with a nine-point win. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 23-25, 26-24, 25-23, 17-25, 15-6.
Firelands better focus on containing Alyssa Popowski and Lily Schremp as the pair were huge in Brookside's win. Popowski had 12 digs and three aces, while Schremp had 18 digs and three assists. What's more, Schremp also posted a 16.7% hitting percentage, which is the highest she's achieved since back in August.
Brookside was lethal from the service line and finished the match with ten aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in 12 consecutive contests.
Firelands' record now sits at 16-5. As for Brookside, their record is now 8-11.
Firelands took their win against Brookside when the teams last played back in September by a conclusive 3-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Falcons since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
