Basketball Recap: Odell Brown's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Fivay over Land O' Lakes

Fivay fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against Land O' Lakes on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell to the Land O' Lakes Gators 71-67. If the Falcons were looking for revenge after losing 83-62 to them when the teams met, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Fivay's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Odell Brown, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. Brown is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down ten or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Dominick Walsh, who went 5 of 10 on his way to 15 points in addition to eight assists and four steals.

Even though they lost, Fivay smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in three consecutive contests.

Land O' Lakes found their leader in freshman Sequel Hodge, who went 6 of 11 on his way to 19 points and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hodge has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Chartric Darby, who almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds.

Fivay's loss dropped their record down to 7-2. As for Land O' Lakes, the victory got them back to even at 5-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Fivay and Tampa Prep will compete for holiday cheer at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Fivay is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 70 points per game this season. Land O' Lakes will take on East Lake in a holiday battle at at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in East Lake's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four games.
