The Spencer County Bears pushed their score all the way to 70 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 83-70 to Newport. Despite running the score up even higher than they did on Tuesday (63), Spencer County still had to take the loss.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Newport to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jabari Covington, who scored 21 points. Those 21 points set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Tay Kinney, who scored 16 points along with five assists and three steals.
Spencer County now has a losing record at 4-5. As for Newport, their victory bumped their record up to 8-2.
Spencer County will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Henry County at 7:30 p.m. on January 3, 2024. Newport won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Trinity at 4:30 p.m. on December 23rd. Trinity is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last five games.
