4A/3A Conference 2 recap November 5, 2013
Adding to the longest winning streak in 4A/3A Conference 2 this week, Freedom beat St. Stephens 48-14. The victory was the seventh in a row for the Patriots.
South Caldwell took down Foard 36-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Freedom's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Titus Smith threw for 87 and 2 touchdowns and Khris Gardin had 54 yards receiving. On the ground BJ Emmons contributed 168 yards. Josh Ray helped Freedom's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 30 yards.
Emmons was a passing and rushing force as Blair Hardin's team beat the Indians. Emmons' favorite target this week was Gardin, who caught 2 passes for 54 yards.
Emmons was the best running back in the league this week. He ran for 168 yards on 4 carries as the Patriots topped St. Stephens. Chris Bridges also contributed to the rushing game with 133 yards on the ground.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Freedom's Smith and Gardin have proven to be a lethal combination. 5-11 quarterback Smith has thrown for 1,388 yards this season, while Gardin has 47 catches for 944 yards. Jahiz Linebarger from Hickory leads the league in rushing with 1,210 yards.
The Patriots' offense has scored 405 points this season, good for No. 1 in the league, while Patton has allowed only 181 on the year.
Gardin of the Freedom's is a few catches away from breaking 1,000 yards for the season. He needs only 56 receiving yards in this week's game against the Panthers to get there. He has recorded 47 catches for 944 yards this year.
A big matchup in 4A/3A Conference 2 this week will be when Patton takes on the Patriots. As it stands, Joe Glass' team is in fourth, while Freedom is in second.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Panthers take on the Patriots. Patton has allowed 181 points this season, while Freedom has given up 192. The Panthers allowed 21 points last week as they fell to Hibriten.
