Gibault Catholic has gone 6-1 against Red Bud recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Hawks will host the Musketeers at 4:30 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Gibault Catholic barely beat Sparta the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Hawks' pitcher stepped up to hand the Bulldogs a 10-0 shutout on Monday. The win continues a trend for the Hawks in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won five in a row.
The result came thanks to Peyton Schaefer's shutout, as he gave up just three hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Tyler Frierdich and Nolan Snell did most of the damage at the plate: Frierdich went 2-for-3 with two triples, three runs, and two RBI, while Snell went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. Gibault Catholic is 3-1 when Frierdich posts two or more runs, but 0-10 otherwise. Dylan Schaefer was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.
Gibault Catholic hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sparta struck out seven times.
Meanwhile, Red Bud came tearing into Tuesday's matchup with eight straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against the Rockets as they made off with an 11-1 victory. The Musketeers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by ten runs or more this season.
Derrick Whelan was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Tyson Bohnert was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Landon Ruebusch, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Red Bud pushed their record up to 12-2 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Gibault Catholic, their win bumped their record up to 3-11.
Gibault Catholic was able to grind out a solid victory over Red Bud when the teams last played back in April of 2024, winning 5-0. Will the Hawks repeat their success, or do the Musketeers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
