Claire Radford spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 17 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Vanessa Brooks, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Kendall Wathen, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Meanwhile, two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only North Point walked away with it. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Rams a 21-0 shutout on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won ten contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Alyssa Blaney made a splash while hitting and pitching. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. Blaney was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and four RBI. What's more, she posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in March.
In other batting news, Aminah Ayyad was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season. Emily Yanick was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one triple and one RBI.
North Point kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Leonardtown pushed their record up to 18-1 with the victory, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.4 runs on average over those games. As for North Point, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-8 record this season.
Leonardtown's speedy runners might be the difference in Monday's game. The Raiders have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.3 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for North Point, though, as they've been averaging only 1.1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Leonardtown continue to outrun the ball?
Leonardtown took their victory against North Point when the teams last played on Monday by a conclusive 11-0 score. Do the Raiders have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
