Given Atlanta's advantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 184th, while Marshall is ranked 403rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Despite the loss, Marshall still got an impressive performance from Deacon Arends, who scored 19 points along with six rebounds and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Arends has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Stephen Caviness, who scored 12 points along with three steals.
Atlanta has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. As for Marshall, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season.
Atlanta will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Marion County at 7:30 p.m. Marion County and Atlanta are at an even 4-4 over their past eight head-to-heads. As for Marshall, they will head out on the road to square off against Macon at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Macon is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
