Baseball Recap: Coal City's Losing Streak Snapped at Four Games

Coal City came into Thursday's match having lost four straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. Everything went their way against the Newark Norsemen on Thursday as they made off with an 8-2 victory. The result was nothing new for the Coalers, who have now won nine games by six runs or more so far this season.

Kellen Forsythe was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with three RBI.

Forsythe wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Donnie Ladas, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Coal City's win bumped their record up to 17-11. As for Newark, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 11-15.

Coming up, Coal City will look to defend their home field on Monday against Manteno at 4:30 p.m. As for Newark, they will challenge Plano at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The last four games the Reapers have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
