The Northeast Vikings had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 23.3 points), and they went ahead and made it seven on Tuesday. They strolled past String Theory with points to spare, taking the game 58-43. Given Northeast's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 100th, while String Theory is ranked 431st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Northeast to victory, but perhaps none more so than Darrius Gaeta, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. The matchup was Gaeta's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Michael Freeman, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
Loss or not, String Theory got some senior leadership from Jason Pezzetti who scored 19 points along with nine rebounds and Dawud Jones who scored eight points along with 13 rebounds. Pezzetti scored a full 44.2% of String Theory's points, the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Justus Robertson was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with five rebounds.
Northeast pushed their record up to 8-1 with that victory, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.3 points per game. As for String Theory, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-4 record this season.
Northeast will finish 2023 at home by hosting Motivation at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Motivation is coming into the match hot, having won their last three games. String Theory is on the road again on Friday and play against Mastery Charter North - Pickett at 3:15 p.m. on December 22nd.
