Basketball Recap: Lee Christian Piles Up the Points Against Haw River Christian Academy

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lee Christian). They breezed by the Haw River Christian Academy Archers to the tune of 56-28 on Monday. For the Falcons, this counts as revenge for the 39-32 win the Archers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2023.

Lee Christian got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Elayna McFarland out in front who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 17 rebounds. McFarland has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more boards the last 12 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Madison Mashburn, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine boards.

Lee Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in three consecutive matchups.

Lee Christian's win ended a five-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-10. As for Haw River Christian Academy, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 3-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. It'll be Battle of the Birds when the Lee Christian Falcons challenge the North Hills Christian Eagles at 6:15 p.m. on Thursday. As for Haw River Christian Academy, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Father Capodanno at 3:30 p.m. on January 8, 2025.
