Kewanee hasn't had much luck against Sherrard recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Boilermakers will challenge the Tigers at 4:30 p.m. Kewanee has given up an average of 7.8 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Kewanee is headed into Friday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Thursday. They came up short against Newman Central Catholic, falling 21-3.
Kewanee saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brady Schiltz, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Another was Ben Taylor, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Sherrard). They blew past Monmouth-Roseville 18-8 on Thursday. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matches by six runs or more this season.
Brady Peterson made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed six innings while giving up just one earned (and seven unearned) runs off three hits. Peterson was also big at the plate, going 4-for-5 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Harrison Curry and Eli Matson did most of the damage at the plate: Curry fired off two home runs and four RBI while going 2-for-2, while Matson went 2-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Matson has been hot, having also posted at least one stolen base the last seven times he's played. Garrett Woodward was another key player, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
Sherrard kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Sherrard has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.2 runs over those games. As for Kewanee, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-15.
