II Section II recap Oct. 23, 2012
Mountain View's Richie Estrada rumbled for the longest rushing play in II Section II this season in his game against Flowing Wells last week. Estrada's team defeated the Caballeros as he sprinted for 83 yards on the play and finished with 359 in all.
Salpointe Catholic extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Rincon, 49-14. The win marks ninth in a row for the the Lancers.
Salpointe Catholic's dynamic duo of Andrew Cota and Brogan Kemmerly proved tough for the Rangers to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Cota threw for 170 yards and three touchdowns and Kemmerly had 54 yards receiving. Cameron Denson helped Salpointe Catholic's passing attack out by catching two balls for 32 yards.
Cienega's Adriell Alvarado and Luke Holley have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Alvarado has thrown for 1563 yards this season, while Holley, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 45 catches for 656 yards. Kevionte Alexander from Rincon leads the league in rushing with 1423 yards.
The marquee game in II Section II this week will be the clash between Dennis Bene's team and Ironwood Ridge. The Lancers enters the game ranked fifth in the state, while the Nighthawks ranks fourth.
Ironwood Ridge's Anthony Braunreiter needs only 15 yards against Salpointe Catholic next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 119 carries Braunreiter has accumulated 985 yard this year.
Two of the top units in the league will face off this week when the Lancers take on Matt Johnson's team. Salpointe Catholic's offense has racked up 422 points this season, earning them the top spot in the league, while the Nighthawks have allowed only 105 on the year.

Canyon del Oro was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from 12th to ninth in the league. Earlier in the week, the Dorados triumphed over Marana 40-12.
