The Cozad Haymakers put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They breezed by Superior at home to the tune of 61-23. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 42-9.
Cozad found their leader in underclassman Olliver Davis, who scored 16 points along with nine rebounds and six steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Davis has scored at least 25% of Cozad's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Shoemaker, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Superior struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only two offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Cozad's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-0. As for Superior, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.
Cozad and Wood River will round out the year against one another at 6:15 p.m. on Friday at. Wood River has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. Superior will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Thayer Central on January 5, 2024.
