West Jordan's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Cody Johnson led the charge by rushing for 102 yards and a pair of TDs on only 12 carries. Johnson has become a key player for the Jaguars: the team is undefeated when he posts at least 80 rushing yards, but 2-3 otherwise. Ayden Dunn was another key passer, throwing for 144 yards and three touchdowns.
West Jordan's defense stepped up as well, laying out Owen Griffin 7.5 times. In that department, Lesa Misionare was the leader with four sacks. Another thorn in Granger's side was Auston ?Scooby? Tulau, who picked up a sack, made 14 total tackles, and defended one pass.
Meanwhile, with a playoff win on the line, Bountiful rose to the challenge on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Falcons 56-6. The Redhawks' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Bountiful's win came from a few key players West Jordan will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Carter Brooks, who rushed for 99 yards and one score on only nine carries, and also caught one TD. Those 99 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Hudson Malmrose, who threw for 181 yards and three touchdowns while completing 73.3% of his passes.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Bountiful was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 255 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 150 rushing yards in seven consecutive matchups.
Bountiful didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Will Smoot and Dawson Allsop.
West Jordan pushed their record up to 7-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to yards per carry: they averaged an imposing 6.8 yards per carry in those games compared to only 2.72 in the others. As for Bountiful, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
Everything went West Jordan's way against Bountiful in their previous matchup back in October of 2016, as West Jordan made off with a 31-10 win. Do the Jaguars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Redhawks turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
