Red Bank Catholic and Colts Neck are an even 4-4 against one another since April of 2015, but likely not for long. The Caseys will be playing in front of their home fans against the Cougars at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. Red Bank Catholic will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
Red Bank Catholic took a six-run defeat the last time they faced off against Ocean Township, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Caseys narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Spartans 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Caseys have posted against the Spartans since April 28, 2017.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Colts Neck). Everything went their way against Shore Regional on Friday as they made off with a 24-1 victory. With that win, the Cougars brought their scoring average up to 6.9 runs per game.
Nick Hayden looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Ronan Kiely, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, eight RBI, and two stolen bases. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Joseph Pignatelli was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Colts Neck always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .609. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Colts Neck has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Red Bank Catholic, their win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-4.
Red Bank Catholic couldn't quite finish off Colts Neck in their previous meeting back in May of 2017 and fell 13-11. Will the Caseys have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
