The Sunrise Mountain Mustangs pushed their score all the way to 59 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 70-59 to Willow Canyon. Despite running the score up even higher than they did on Tuesday (58), Sunrise Mountain still had to take the loss.
Several Mustangs players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Marcus Murray, who scored 19 points. Those 19 points set a new season-high mark for him. Caden Hammond was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with five rebounds.
This is the second loss in a row for Sunrise Mountain and nudges their season record down to 5-6. As for Willow Canyon, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-1.
Sunrise Mountain will be home for the holidays to greet Peoria at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Peoria will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Arizona Rankings (they are ranked 234th, while Sunrise Mountain is ranked 101st). As for Willow Canyon, they will head out on the road to face off against Kellis at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
