The Wilton Warriors will head out to challenge the Staples Wreckers at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Wilton's pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so Staples' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Wilton is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Connecticut's top teams: New Canaan, who was ranked 23rd at the time (Wilton was ranked 24th). The Warriors lost 9-2 to the Rams on Wednesday. The defeat continues a trend for the Warriors in their meetings with the Rams: they've now lost four in a row.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Staples, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They walked away with a 17-12 win over Greenwich on Wednesday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Wreckers as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Makayla Hein was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off three hits. Hein was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cora Barrett, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, four runs, and four RBI. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Nadia Stubbs was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI.
Staples lost a few balls and finished the game with four home runs. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their home run total in three consecutive games.
The win got Staples back to even at 5-5. As for Wilton, their loss dropped their record down to 7-4.
Wilton got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in May of 2025 against Staples by a conclusive 11-5 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Warriors since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
