The North Moore Mustangs will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Bertie Falcons at 7:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only North Moore walked away with it. They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat Chatham Central 28-0 at home. The victory was nothing new for North Moore as they're now sitting on seven straight.
North Moore's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jakarey Gillis, who rushed for 109 yards and a touchdown. Another player making a difference was Kolby Ritchie, who rushed for 85 yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Bertie was not the first on the board last Friday, but they got there more often. Everything went their way against Southside as Bertie made off with a 34-14 win.
Bertie can attribute much of their success to Jeremiah Benthall, who threw for 273 yards and three touchdowns while completing 72.2% of his passes, and also punched in two rushing scores.
North Moore has yet to lose a match at home this season, leaving them with a 9-2 record. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-11 Chatham Central and 0-11 Chatham Central (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 22.7% over those games). As for Bertie, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 5-5 record this season.
