Wagener-Salley has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Blackville-Hilda Fighting Hawks at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
Wagener-Salley pushed their score all the way to 55 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 75-55 walloping at the hands of Ridge Spring-Monetta.
Meanwhile, Blackville-Hilda fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against the Blue Devils on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Blue Devils by a score of 71-68. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Blackville-Hilda's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Jaquel Holman, who scored 27 points along with two steals, and Messiah Mcfadden who dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds. Mcfadden continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Arkel Thomas, who scored nine points along with three steals.
Wagener-Salley's defeat was their sixth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 0-16. As for Blackville-Hilda, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record this season.
Wagener-Salley took a serious blow against the Fighting Hawks in their previous matchup on Friday, falling 71-41. Can Wagener-Salley avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
