Heritage fell victim to Evergreen's stalwart defense on Thursday and couldn't make it onto the board. They took a serious blow against the Plainsmen, falling 54-0. While losing is never fun, Heritage can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Washington football rankings (they are ranked 229th, while Evergreen is ranked 86th).
Meanwhile, it may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Mountain View ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. In a tight contest that could have gone either way, they made off with a 35-34 win over Kelso. The score was all tied up 14-14 at the break, but Mountain View was the better team in the second half.
Mountain View can attribute much of their success to Cash Cook, who threw for 234 yards and three touchdowns while completing 72.2% of his passes, and Porter Drake, who rushed for 226 yards while picking up 10.3 yards per carry. Drake is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last five games he's played. JJ Thompson also helped out with an impressive 135 receiving yards.
Heritage's defeat was their ninth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-7. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 1.56 points per game. As for Mountain View, their victory on Friday bumped their record up to 6-1.
Heritage took a serious blow against Mountain View when the teams last played back in October of 2022, falling 48-6. Can Heritage avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
