Campbell County is 0-10 against Powell since March of 2021 but things could change on Thursday. The Cougars will be playing in front of their home fans against the Panthers at 6:00 p.m.
Campbell County made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Oak Ridge, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Cougars fell just short of the Wildcats by a score of 6-4 on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Cougars have suffered against the Wildcats since April 12, 2016.
Keira Bierdemann was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing six innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off four hits. Bierdemann was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run.
In other batting news, Lynley Nelson and Jenna Pinkston stepped up to the plate in a big way. Nelson got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two RBI, while Pinkston went 2-for-3 with one triple and one run.
Meanwhile, Powell had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Bobcats with a sharp 9-2 victory. Considering the Panthers have won three matchups by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Like Campbell County, Powell also got a great game from a two-way player: Rianna Boone. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 12 over seven innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Boone has posted since back in March of 2025. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one RBI.
In other batting news, Madison Crawley was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2025. Another player making a difference was Macie Overton, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.
Powell lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Campbell County's loss dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Powell, their win bumped their record up to 6-1.
Campbell County suffered a grim 17-0 defeat to Powell in their previous matchup back in March of 2025. Can the Cougars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
