Shadow Ridge and Coronado are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2019, but likely not for long. The Mustangs will face off against the Cougars at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Shadow Ridge is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.5 runs per game this season.
Shadow Ridge heads in on the heels of a playoff game on Wednesday. They fell just short of Centennial by a score of 6-5. The Mustangs have struggled against the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.
Chloe Covington was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one triple.
Coronado's found some homefield redemption this week after a overtime loss to Bishop Gorman on Wednesday. The Cougars blew past Silverado 11-1. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won ten contests by eight runs or more so far this season.
Coronado also got a great performance from Aubrie Sisler as she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched.
At the plate, Bailey Goldberg was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four stolen bases and four runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. Paisley Magdaleno was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs.
Coronado was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .545. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in three consecutive matches.
Shadow Ridge's defeat dropped their record down to 13-8. As for Coronado, their record now sits at 16-13.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Shadow Ridge hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .379. However, it's not like Coronado struggles in that department as they've averaged .340. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Shadow Ridge took their victory against Coronado in their previous matchup back in April by a conclusive 14-5 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
