Two dominant backs in Cody Mcbrayer and Benjamin Plemons are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Dawson County Tigers will be playing at home against the Chestatee War Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.
On Friday, Dawson County was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 25-20 to White County.
Although Dawson County took the loss, they still got scores from Jacob Felkai, Mcbrayer, and Brody Sorensen.
Dawson County didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Felkai and Jayden Cohen. Dawson County got some further help from Paxton Phillips: he made 14 total tackles.
Meanwhile, Chestatee's game on Friday was all tied up 21-21 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. The contest between the War Eagles and Pickens didn't end well, with the War Eagles falling 45-28. While the War Eagles didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Dragons 7-0 in the first quarter.
Dawson County will need to focus on slowing down Colton Steele, one of several Chestatee players who made an impact when they last played. He rushed for 69 yards and one score, and also caught one touchdown. Brody Burke was another key player, rushing for 58 yards and one TD on only five carries.
Dawson County has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 26.3 points over those games. As for Chestatee, they now have a losing record of 3-4.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Dawson County has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 154.9 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Chestatee struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 228.3 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Dawson County came out on top in a nail-biter against Chestatee in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, sneaking past 22-20. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Plemons, who rushed for 141 yards and one score on only 15 carries. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will the Tigers still be able to contain Plemons? There's only one way to find out.
