The Independence 76ers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They were the victim of a tough 75-52 loss at the hands of Gunn. Independence lost against Gunn in their previous head to head back in December of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 57-43 score last time.
Independence's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Joshua Villanueva, who scored 17 points. Villanueva scored a full 32.7% of Independence's points, the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Ethan Gualberto was another key contributor, scoring 7 points along with 8 rebounds.
Independence's defeat dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Gunn, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 4-2 record this season.
Independence's road trip will continue as they head out to face San Mateo at 5:00 p.m. on December 14th. As for Gunn, they will take on Silver Creek at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday. Silver Creek is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
