The Olympian Eagles will challenge the Otay Ranch Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Olympian not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 4th. Everything went their way against Coronado as they made off with an 8-1 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Eagles.
Sophia G Aquino made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. What's more, she posted three strikeouts, the most she's had since back in March. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. That stolen base marked the first that she snagged this season.
In other pitching news, Alexandra Perez looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in ten consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Olympian got a massive performance out of Kailynn Robeson, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-3. That's the most runs Robeson has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacqui De Murguia, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.
Olympian hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least two batters in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Otay Ranch, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 10-1 margin over Mar Vista on Tuesday. The Mustangs haven't had any issues with the Mariners recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Victoria Resendez tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits.
At the plate, Otay Ranch let Kalina Sangalang and Itzel Soto run wild. Sangalang scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4, while Soto went 2-for-4 with four RBI and two runs. Another player making a difference was Avah Gonzales, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Otay Ranch's victory was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-9-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Olympian, their victory bumped their record up to 4-8-1.
