Baseball Recap: Holly Grove Christian Wins Going Away Against Chestertown Christian Academy

Holly Grove Christian came out on top against Chestertown Christian Academy on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run first inning. The Eagles put the hurt on the Patriots with a sharp 11-2 victory. Considering the Eagles' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Jack Ellis and Josh Zucker made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Ellis tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Zucker tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. At the plate, Ellis went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double, while Zucker went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double. Those two runs gave Ellis a new career-high.

In other batting news, Nathan Hamilton was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples, two runs, and two RBI. Holly Grove Christian is undefeated when Hamilton posts two or more runs, but 1-6 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Caleb Bradford, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

Holly Grove Christian kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Holly Grove Christian's record now sits at 5-6. As for Chestertown Christian Academy, they dropped their record down to 0-6 with the defeat, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, Holly Grove Christian will challenge Salisbury Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Salisbury Christian has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.21 runs per game on average), something Holly Grove Christian will no doubt try to take advantage of. Chestertown Christian Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
