Softball Recap: Martinsville Wins Going Away Against Pike

While Martinsville put up plenty of runs on Saturday, the same can't be said for Pike. The Artesians were the clear victors by a 15-0 margin over the Red Devils. The Artesians might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by six runs or more this season.

Martinsville got a great performance from Grace Cook as she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Cook has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Martinsville let Nacey Dickinson and Aubrie Shepherd run wild. Dickinson went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases and three runs, while Shepherd went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Dickinson continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. Mylee Jarrett also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen bases of the season.

Martinsville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

The victory got Martinsville back to even at 8-8. As for Pike, they are on a 12-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-11.

Martinsville has already played their next game, an 11-0 defeat against Living Water Homeschool on the 26th. As for Pike, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 16-3 loss against Ben Davis on the 26th.
