Tri-Valley - West recap Sept. 26, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to St. Charles, who took down 255th ranked Michigan Lutheran Seminary, 9-7.
Valley Lutheran moved up to 296 from 391 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Tri-Valley - West. A 62-12 win over St. Louis helped the Chargers improve their standing.
Ithaca's dynamic duo of Travis Smith and Zach Allen proved tough for Breckenridge to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Smith threw for 171 yards and two touchdowns and Allen had 64 yards receiving. Caden Kipp helped Ithaca's passing attack out by catching two balls for 42 yards.
Travis Welch was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 10 carries, he ran for 238 yards as Valley Lutheran defeated the Huskies. Teammate Evan Howard added to the ground attack by rushing for 155 yards.
Ithaca's Smith and Kipp have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Smith has thrown for 865 yards this season, while Kipp, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 10 catches for 250 yards. Randy Finney's team's Welch leads the league in rushing yards with 584.
The top two teams in Tri-Valley - West will face off this week when first place Ithaca takes on second place Carrollton. Last week, Terry Hessbrook's team beat Breckenridge, while Carrollton topped Merrill.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Yellowjackets take on the Cavaliers. Ithaca has allowed 20 points this season, while Carrollton has given up 36. The Yellowjackets allowed 0 points last week as they bested Mel Skillman's team.
Ithaca extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating the Huskies, 70-0. The win marks fifth in a row for the the Yellowjackets.
