Softball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Kennebunk

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Kennebunk ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Massabesic Mustangs 8-7. The victory was familiar territory for the Rams, who have now won three contests in a row.

Juliann Pike was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 17 batters over nine innings while giving up just one earned (and six unearned) runs off nine hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Maggie Canniff, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run. Talia Kellum was another key player, going 1-for-5 with two runs and one stolen base.

Kennebunk's record now sits at 6-2. As for Massabesic, their loss dropped their record down to 3-3.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Kennebunk will take on rival Biddeford at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Rams 3.5, the Tigers 4) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Massabesic is set to square off against their familiar foe South Portland at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
