Baseball Recap: Conestoga Christian Victorious

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against High Point Baptist Academy, Conestoga Christian was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They never let the Alliance Christian Gryphons get on the board and left with a 20-0 win. The Cougars have beaten the Gryphons the last five times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Gryphons has come to flipping the script.

Declan McDermott made a splash while hitting and pitching. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Clayton Zimmerman was a standout: he scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Clark Brubacher was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.

Conestoga Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .595. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Alliance Christian only posted an OBP of .077.

Conestoga Christian now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Alliance Christian, they dropped their record down to 0-2 with the defeat, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Conestoga Christian will take on Christian School of York at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Christian School of York's pitching crew has only allowed two runs per game this season, so Conestoga Christian's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Alliance Christian, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on High Point Baptist Academy at 4:00 p.m. on April 3.
