Football Recap: Colsten Rodriguez Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Newman Grove/St. Edward

Twin River's game last Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They came out on top against the Newman Grove/St. Edward Panthers by a score of 36-28. That's more bragging rights for the Titans, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Twin River's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Colsten Rodriguez, who rushed for 41 yards and a pair of TDs, and also threw for 170 yards and two touchdowns while completing 73.3% of his passes. Those 170 passing yards gave Rodriguez a new career-high. Braedyn Ramaekers was another key player, picking up 110 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Twin River proved: they limited Newman Grove/St. Edward to a paltry 3.5 yards per carry. The team can thank Adam Schroder for the heroic effort on defense: he. Sadly, that's becoming something of a trend for Twin River; they were averaging 4.4yards per carry per game earlier this season, but in their last three matchups they've fallen to only 2.9 per game.

Twin River's win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 3-3. As for Newman Grove/St. Edward, their loss dropped their record down to 0-6.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Twin River will head out to challenge Madison at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Titans will be up against the Dragons' rather soft defense (which has allowed 53.17 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Newman Grove/St. Edward, they are taking a road trip to face off against Clarkson/Leigh at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Panthers will need to watch out since the Patriots have now posted at least 31 points in their last three matchups.
