Calvary Christian and Tampa Catholic are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2018, but likely not for long. The Warriors will welcome the Crusaders at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in Calvary Christian's favor as the squad sits on 22 straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Tampa Catholic has been banged up by seven consecutive losses on the road also dating back to last season.
Calvary Christian is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They never let Clearwater Central Catholic get on the board and left with an 18-0 win. Considering the Warriors have won 16 matchups by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Morgen Talley was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Braylee Rano, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Emma Bell, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Calvary Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .821. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Tampa Catholic never got on the board in their matchup last Thursday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Cardinal Mooney on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over the Cougars.
Like Calvary Christian, Tampa Catholic also got a great game from a two-way player: Olivia Ricciardi. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Ricciardi was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Bella Busciglio was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. Lillie Bridges was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Calvary Christian's victory bumped their record up to 26-1. As for Tampa Catholic, their win bumped their record up to 11-9.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Calvary Christian has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Tampa Catholic struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Calvary Christian was able to grind out a solid victory over Tampa Catholic in their previous matchup back in March, winning 5-2. Do the Warriors have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Crusaders turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
