The Longview Lobos will square off against the Porter Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Longview sitting on nine straight victories and Porter on three.
Longview can now show off seven landslide victories after their most recent contest on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat West Mesquite 43-0 on the road. Given Longview's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 13th, while West Mesquite is ranked 424th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Longview's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Mason Washington, who rushed for 86 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries. Washington was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 51 yards. Another player making a difference was Maverick Rowe, who threw for 203 yards and a touchdown on only 14 passes.
Meanwhile, it may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Porter ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They snuck past Barbers Hill with a 27-21 victory.
Longview's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 38.4 points per game. As for Porter, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season.
