Sophie Nathanson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and two unearned) runs on 12 hits and racked up nine Ks. Those nine strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.
At the plate, Zoe Spector made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-2. Riley Cabrera also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Boston Latin Academy faced Newton South in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Dragons came up short against the Lions, falling 7-0. The matchup marked the first time this season in which the Dragons were not able to get on the board.
Boston Latin Academy saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Caitlin Sweeney, who went 1-for-3 with one triple.
Newton South's loss dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Boston Latin Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-2.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Newton South hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1 home runs per game. However, it's not like Boston Latin Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.8 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
