The Garinger Wildcats have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matchups by 30 points or more this season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Wednesday as they easily beat Statesville 60-26 at home. Given Garinger's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 196th, while Statesville is ranked 492nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Garinger found their leader in underclassman Misa Garris, who scored 20 points along with six rebounds and three steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which Garris has scored at least 25% of Garinger's points. Kim'mya Kelly was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with three steals.
Garinger's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 10-4. As for Statesville, they bumped their record down to 1-8 with that loss, which was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Garinger will square off against Charlotte Catholic at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Statesville will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against East Lincoln at 6:00 p.m. on January 5th. East Lincoln is coming into the match hot, having won their last three games.
