Tohopekaliga is 1-7 against Cypress Creek since February of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Tigers will square off against the Bears at 5:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
On Wednesday, Tohopekaliga got the win against Colonial by a conclusive 9-3.
Maria Santiago made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off two hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Jessilyn Diaz and Anijah Limones did most of the damage at the plate: Diaz went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Limones went 1-for-2 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. That double marked the first that Diaz has hit this season. Jessalyn Morales was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Cypress Creek entered their tilt with Lake Buena Vista on Wednesday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They put the hurt on the Vipers with a sharp 11-3 victory.
The team relied heavily on Britney Freitez, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Illiana Bustamante, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs.
Cypress Creek kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive matches.
Cypress Creek's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-4. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for Tohopekaliga, they now have a winning record of 9-8.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Tohopekaliga has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Cypress Creek struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
