The Grimsley Whirlies put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their undefeated season alive. They took their match at home with ease, bagging a 54-0 win over Page. Fans of Grimsley have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season ended as a blowout.
Grimsley was led to victory by Faizon Brandon and Mitchell Summers. Brandon threw for 303 yards and two touchdowns while completing 83.3% of his passes, while Summers rushed for 114 yards and five touchdowns on only nine carries. Summers is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in the last eight games he's played. Another player making a difference was Terrell Anderson, who picked up 126 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Grimsley's win was their 15th straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 9-0. It's not like the team was facing easy opposition over that stretch either, as it included 8-1 Rolesville and 13-2 Weddington (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 58.1% over those games). As for Page, they now have a losing record at 4-5.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Grimsley will face off against Northern Guilford at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Northern Guilford will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 133rd, while Grimsley is ranked third). As for Page, they will head out on the road to face off against Southeast Guilford at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Southeast Guilford is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
