The Sand Point Eagles/Lady Eagles waltzed into their game on Wednesday with four straight wins but they left with five. They walked away with a 34-23 win over Lumen Christi. Despite the win, that was the fewest points Sand Point has scored all season.
Sand Point got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Arianna Wilson out in front who scored 17 points along with six rebounds. That makes it five consecutive games in which Wilson has scored at least a third of Sand Point's points. Misty Marine was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Something new happened on Wednesday as Wilson saw her first action of the season, playing 32 minutes against Lumen Christi. Wilson made the most of the opportunity, scoring 17 points along with six rebounds. A few more games like that and she might be seeing even more time going forward.
When it comes to explaining why Lumen Christi lost, one person who can't be blamed is Amara Warren. Despite the final result, she scored nine points along with seven rebounds and five steals. Warren is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least three every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Lillian Muller, who scored six points.
Sand Point pushed their record up to 7-1 with that win, which was their third straight on the road. As for Lumen Christi, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-11.
Sand Point and King Cove will face off on February 16th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Sand Point focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Wednesday. After both having extra time off, Lumen Christi and Aniak will shake off the cobwebs and take on one another at 6:00 p.m. on February 12th. Aniak has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
