Wayne Farmer, Jr. was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk). Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Chippy Ayon, who scored three runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Daniel Tamayo, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.
Calhoun County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wagener-Salley only posted an OBP of .167.
Meanwhile, Horse Creek Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They came up short against Andrew Jackson Academy, falling 12-2. Having soared to a lofty 18 runs in the game before, the Stallions couldn't push the score so high this time.
Horse Creek Academy saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cannon Blume, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Connor Kanagy was another, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base.
Calhoun County now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Horse Creek Academy, they now have a losing record of 5-6.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Calhoun County has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .473. However, it's not like Horse Creek Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .527. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
