Softball Recap: Union Area Starts Season with Victory on the Road

Union Area had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. Everything went their way against the Riverside Panthers on Monday as the Union Area Scotties made off with a 13-1 victory. The win continues a trend for the Scotties in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won four in a row.

Mia Preuhs was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 14 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). Preuhs was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs, six RBI, and one double while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Addie Nogay and Olivia Williams did most of the damage at the plate: Nogay went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI, while Williams went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. That's the most hits Nogay has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Maddie Settle, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Union Area always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Riverside only posted an OBP of .211.

Coming up, Union Area will head out on the road to square off against Wilmington at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Riverside will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Freedom Area at 4:00 p.m. on March 31st.
