It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Countryside ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Academy of the Holy Names Jaguars 54-52. The victory was familiar territory for the Cougars who have now won three matchups in a row.

It was another big night for Alyssa Wright, who posted 20 points in addition to six assists and six boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Julia Smith, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds.

When it comes to explaining why Academy of the Holy Names lost, don't look at Hailey Scott. Despite the final result, she went 7 of 14 on her way to 16 points and five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Gabriella Teixeira, who went 5 of 9 on her way to 10 points in addition to seven boards and five assists.

Countryside's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 11-3. As for Academy of the Holy Names, they now have a losing record at 7-8.

Countryside will head out to take on Clearwater Central Catholic at 6:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025. As for Academy of the Holy Names, they will host St. Petersburg at 1:00 p.m. on Friday.
